Summer treat tracking guide

How to make cooling off this summer easy to track!

the most popular Treats:

We took a big poll, and discovered the most common frozen summer treats you struggle to track.

Save this guide for quick reference when you hit up the state fair, farmer’s market, beach, or food truck!

  • Açaí bowls

  • Smoothies // Juice Bar

  • Frozen Yogurt // DIY Soft Serve

  • Ice Cream

  • Milk Shakes & Malts

  • Slushies // Snow Cones

  • Popsicles

ACaí bowls

For a regular-sized açaí bowl at a local shop or smoothie joint, you’re looking for something between 75-100g of carbs as your baseline entry.

We like to use entries from Jamba Juice or a similar spot for our estimation.

Kid’s or small size? Log it as 0.8 servings. Large? Log it as 1.25 servings. You can also find an entry that includes ounces to be more accurate.

Smoothies // Juice Bar

Who doesn’t love a good smoothie? Grabbing a smoothie from a local shop? Search for a similar-ish one from Smoothie King. What's great about the smoothie king entries is they’re by the fluid ounce, so it will get you in the ballpark!

Juice? Don’t overthink this one! Mostly fruit-based? Log it as OJ and call it a day! Mostly greens? Feel free to log it as a Suja juice and move on.

Self Serve Frozen Yogurt

The best part of self-serve (when it comes to tracking) is the scale that weighs your cup before you pay. For extra accuracy, weigh the cup empty before you start building!

No toppings? Select one of the below entries and log how many ounces there were in your cup.

Toppings? Log 50-70% of the tare weight as your froyo of choice and the remainder as your toppings.

For Ex: 10oz cookies & cream froyo with fudge + Oreos? Log it as 6oz froyo + 4oz Oreos.

Artisan Ice Cream

Did the local Ice cream shop get your number? The biggest piece of knowledge you need to track ice cream is that 1 scoop = about 4 oz of ice cream.

Pick an artisan ice cream entry that is close enough for the flavor you ordered (we like Jeni’s, plenty of options and an ingredient profile that’s going to be similar to your local shop).

Ordered in a waffle cone and not a cup? Just add that onto your tracking as a separate item :)

Milk Shakes & Malts

When it comes to flavors, does it really matter when tracking a milkshake or malt? Not really.

All the Chick-fil-A milkshakes entries are great proxies because you can log them by the fluid oz to match the serving size of the milkshake you bought!

Even if the flavor doesn’t match, it will be close enough for what you need here. Don’t stress it.

Slushies // Snow Cones

What is a slushy? It's blended ice and flavored sugar! Depending on where in the country you are, a slushy is a Slurpee or an Icee. The below entry allows you to adjust for fluid oz per serving.

Do you fancy a snow cone or shaved ice? The below option also allows you to track by the ounce, so you just have to adjust to your serving size!

For more elaborate shave ice with toppings, simply add your toppings individually on the entry with a good enough guess as your estimate.

popsicles

King of Pops popsicles are the perfect proxy for any local popsicle stand you frequent! They even have options for creamier popsicles.

The local artisan popsicle company was Laura’s favorite when she lived in North Georgia, and now they’re nationwide and in the database :)

takeaways

When guesstimating, choosing the option that’s close enough to your serving size vs perfect flavor match is going to get you close enough!

  • Don’t make it too hard on yourself! 1-2 treats per week, guesstimated like this, will only sway your weekly data averages by up to 3%.

  • What if I don’t eat the whole thing? That’s okay! Log it as a partial serving!

  • Remember, you can always ask the vendor if they have their own nutritional information!
